Nebula Eligible Stories (09 Edition)

Tuesday Nov 17, 2009

So it’s that time of year where we make Nebula nominations. As this is my site, I am posting my eligible stories. In a few days I will also post stories from other authors that I found particularly awesome. So if you’re voter eligible, please check these stories out and consider them for nominations.

Short Stories:

The Spider In You – Strange Horizons, March 2009

We kept our god under the sink, in an old aquarium, so it wouldn’t spill its web all over the house. We didn’t tell you because you were so curious. Our daughter: you are like an otter, or a hummingbird. How would you stand against such a monster as our god?

Waiting for the Green Woman – Sybil’s Garage, August 2009

MY DAUGHTER IS a tree in the desert. She doesn’t move; the world rushes past her. I sit in her thin, angular shade, against her diluted-green trunk, and listen as she gossips about the grains of sand as if she knows each one by name. I try not to think about her mother, the green woman, but cannot help myself.

Thanks!

If you put a snake in your hair it’ll get stuck that way forever

Monday Nov 16, 2009

true story.

my most awesome and talented friend Skipper has a new story out in Fantasy Magazine this week.  It’s  called The Medusa Complex. You’d be doing yourself a favor to check it out because it’s pretty damn cool.

teaser:

You have opened the box, so we’ll have to assume that your mother is dead. We would like to offer our sincerest condolences. It’s not going to help, drinking vast quantities of rum out of Holiday Inn Dixie cups, but we agree it dulls the edges. We do think you should stop drinking, however, and focus on these instructions.

Win a free copy of SG6

Friday Sep 4, 2009

I have decided to give away an extra copy of Sybil’s Garage issue 6

FOR FREE

Here’s how to play:

1.) Go read my story from SG issue 6, “Waiting for the Green Woman.”

2.) Leave a comment about the story (if you’re so inclined) at the SG site, or just leave me a note here that you’ve read it.

There will be no multiple choice test; I trust you, internets.

3.) In one week, I will collect all the names who commented here and at the Sybil’s Garage site, put them into a random name generator (RNG), and let the RNG pick a winner.

*Please make sure you’ve left a way for me to contact you, such as an email address, or a link to a site where I can find your contact information.

Check back NEXT FRIDAY (September 11) for winner announcement.

Enjoy!

our guestroom

Thursday Sep 3, 2009

just became slightly more awesome.

Mary Robinette Kowal, 2008 Campbell Award winner, 2009 Hugo Award nominee, and all around excellent person just finished her novel Glamour in Glass in our guest room.

Neat!

Congrats, Mary!

Also, Mary has a new story up @ Tor.com.  I’m only at the beginning of First Flight, but I love the story so far, and looking forward to finishing.

“Waiting for the Green Woman” – now online

Wednesday Aug 26, 2009

My story Waiting for the Green Woman is up at the Senses Five site (which has just been redisigned, btw, and looks very rad).

You can pick order your own copy of the issue here.

Brain Harvest — Shatter Shatter

Sunday Aug 9, 2009

Brain Harvest (an almanac of bad ass speculative fiction) posts stories weekly–all under 750 words.  My story Shatter Shatter is up this week.  Here’s an excerpt:

My real name is Cherie, but you can call me Cherry or I might just rake your face. My nails are epic weapons, like napalm or dynamite. You already know about glass hearts, but I bet you’ve never seen one, not even your own.

Happy reading!
